This has to be one of the more photographed views of San Francisco, "The Painted Ladies". They are half a block from my more humble house, and Alamo Square Park, where this photo is taken from, is a beautiful park that on the weekend is mobbed with tourists and photo takers. Folks get their wedding pictures taken with San Francisco as a back drop.
I was just here with Eric's Mom, and we discovered a different part of the park, the place where shoes come to rest and become holders of plants to grow. There is quite a collection there. I puzzle over who thought this up, really-it's a perfect urban gardener thing to do.
And then we had to go to wine country, went all the way up to Healdsburg-it's a trek, but beautiful country.
The gourd above was carefully placed in shadow, so that when you walked by it at night, it looked like a bird, dipping it's head.
These photos of Grandma to the left :
1. Grandma in 1930. Check out that hat, her dress, and the car she is standing in front of....it was taken in Pennsylvania, near where she grew up and where my Mom spent a lot of time, as well.
2. Grandma in all of her glory now-she was excited by the blooms of the plant behind her. She spent years volunteering on Long Island at her favourite local Arbouretum.
3. Her new small house at Kendal.
I wish I had photoshop-What I loved about this building is the top, the weathered metal....downtown Denver actually has some interesting architecture, or maybe it's just the warehouses that SF seems to lack, and reminds me so of Chicago. Thank G for brick, and stonemasons.
Eric's favorite Cafe. We stopped by there, engaged in a three-table discussion about music (ah, how i hate that!!!) with some strangers, had some treats abd Gio treated us FINE.
These murals are all in a row in the alley across from Eric's apartment. Very cool. And not graffitied all over.
Two of the theaters that we didn't go to. :)
Bummer we missed the Kings of Leon, because I missed them at South By Southwest, but....we had lots of time to spend with friends and family.:)
My oldest niece, Kelsey, at the ripe old age of 21. We went for noodles at this yummy noodle shop called Noodleism in Austin. I was lucky enough to meet her boyfriend and partner-in-camp, Matt.
It has been sooo very long since I have seen my niece, and it was great to see her Texas, which I know she likes a lot. Also amazing to see her as an adult-she's all grown up. Her boyfriend, Matt, was very engaging, and I am very happy that I got to meet him, too!
When spending time with family, there is never enough time, and I was unfortunately a bit distracted by SXSW going on all around us. It was like being in the midst of a huge party.
